New England Winters

You can boast of California, And Hilton Head as well, California’s gotten rotten Florida’s hot as Hell. So let me struggle with the snow, And bundle ‘gainst the cold I’ll live up here in Yankee land Until I’m too damned old. Shoveling’s not much fun, but Winter’s cold and snappy. Watch sledding kids upon a hill. Defines the meaning: ’happy’. Then later, when I’m feeble And stumble as I go I’ll think about resigning But my spirit tells me No! One thing our winters surely do, Without a lot of noise, It helps the world to separate The real men from the boys.

Been here for 76 years and it still amazes me.....the weather, the thrill, and the shoveling....not that I'm 76. Your poem captures the nuance and nature of a New Englander....

Joseph, I loved how your poem flowed along so nicely from beginning to end, maintained your theme, and with superb rhyming. All in all, a real winner. Good writing. I hope to see more of your work.

Thanks, Milton. I have a couple of other poems that I'm thinking of posting, but they may be too politically controversial, so I'll bide my time. Thanks again.
