Never thought I'd look at life that way
Saw the sun set o'er the hill
And felt darkness in my heart
Sensed the spirits leaving me
As they were called to depart
And all this came through a different day
I never thought I'd look at life that way
The winds of change once came through
Though not recognized in time
The moon's not about to rise
Freedom's bells are yet to chime
All this with words painted with dismay
I never thought I'd look at life that way
Songs drifted across the plain
Were about the days gone by
There were heroes and villains
All of whom did live and die
Now that history is in decay
I never thought I'd never look at life that way
Then comes talk of a future
Where nothing will be that same
Everything we've said and done
Will be gathered up by flame
Then, again, we're bound to never stray
I never thought I'd dream of life that way
