Never Ask Why

all the prophets say that come that day
we will all stand down, all stand down into the night
but I can only see it coming yesterday
when momma told me not to cry
all i say is why tell the lie
and tomorrow never comes anyway

The days are growing shorter
though they are feeling longer
cannot say I mind
when every hit makes me stronger

But I ask god why anyway
why do I have to wait until that day
to see my love standing there
all I get is nowhere anyhow

never ask why when the time comes
just stand back, relax, and let it come
our follies are fading away, away

but some may say that come what may
rest and peace is just a lie
i guess i'll find out when i die
should never have asked anyway
