Neighbours

They hate me for what I am, Not that I did anything to them, I have not as much said a word, But they have decided I am bad! They do not look me in the eye, When they see me there is no Hi! When out for a walk with my dog, They see me and turn away their jog! What made them change, try to guess! We were friends once, more or less, It is not race religion or how I look, I am neither a maniac nor a crook! They were friends with me till they knew That I was less than them, in their view But once they learnt what I could do, They found reasons against me to rue, Fame I achieved with my gift of art In this they played not a jot of part, When they saw my fame pouring in, They started at me like it was sin! In small groups they used hushed gossip, everything I did was reported negative, When I spoke they said I was too loud, When I smiled they said I was too proud! Decade I have grown in name and fame, now they are playing a different game, They no longer ignore me or what I do, They even stop by to say a word or two, In party gatherings they crowd around me, Laugh and chat and even take a selfie! I guess I have understood their human side, “ If you can’t fight it go with the tide!”
