Neighborhood Built True
What if we decided to name ourselves with a different word?
When we watched the nightly news, neighborhood is what we heard.
After all the way we’re headed I don’t know what else to do.
I know John has said it well for years and yes I wish it was true.
Imagine walking to the park and all saw you without reference
Think what it would mean if we no longer saw the difference
Rather all relished their humanity and acted with extended hand
We all joined together and made a kindness stand
Like an old time barn raising where all worked to raise it true.
Would it not be nice if that was how it was and what we tried to do?
If all the stones in our foundation aren’t set solid in the mortar
How long shall our structure stand, useful and in working order?
We focus on the middle class and ponder what to do
However until all sit at the table our structure is not true
We fail to see the problem when we apply a bailout patch
We pass laws against social illness disparity continues to hatch
Why don’t we learn from yesterday and build a bright tomorrow
Rather than continue to face the world with so many left in sorrow
America you had a founding purpose failed to ever anoint
All must be included or we Americans have missed the point
Imagine what the world would think if we let all share in the bounty
What if we did not abandon one even in our smallest county?
When all know they are included very few will break the rules
When will our civil servants ever recognize these clues?
Nations andNeighborhoods are like a building and need a solid foundation
If we do not work for that we shall have a shaky nation.
Remember you never stand so tall, as when you stoop to help another
Look around my friends and say to them, all of you are my brother
One family of humanity…the only race we need to see!!!
