Nd Heart In Ashes

The people gaze in disbelief
As flames engulf the screaming spire.
Raised eyes, transfixed, are full of grief
To witness this ferocious fire.

The very heart of Paris groans
As acrid smoke erupts with ease
And atheists reduced to tears
Console those driven to their knees.

And as the spire comes crashing down
The people gasp in sheer despair
Linked hand in hand and deep in thought.
An eerie stillness fills the air.

Ah, 'atheists reduced to tears.' That, Wendy, is classic. Poetic justice, I suppose. Precociously penned! :) gw

Thank you, Gershon. We were enjoying a visit of the cathedral only last summer. I appreciate your time and comments, Gershon.

Wendy, this is a wow! Beautifully done. A sweet rhyme. On the opening lines I thought immediately of the Twin Towers, but quickly got over that idea. Nicely done my friend!

Hi Caren. Your comment alerted me to the fact that I'd mistakenly written tower when I had intended to say spire so thanks for the prompt. No wonder you were 'diverted' in thought. Thanks as always for your kind comments,Caren.
