Nature's Gift

The day will come,
More quickly than the time it took
For me to recognize it would
When my family is undone.

But nature's gift

As you, with unsteady step
Into the world leave mother's breast,
And protective warm embrace
For a more uncertain place,
Perhaps to be adrift. -

Is this moment

Of tenderness and playful pride
While each heartbeat fills our lives,
And never can be stolen.
