trunk rooted essence
sprouting greenness and flowers
actor changing mask

Superb Haiku. An especially strong, memorable third line. Congratulations! Brian

Haikus fascinate me. One day I'll have a try at them myself. Until then, I'm very happy to read examples such as yours Frances. Clever, witty, if a little obscure but all the better for it. Congratulations. Cheers - Gary

it's always difficult for a single haiku to hold its own in a contest for all forms (they tend to get 'swallowed up') but this one managed to do just that, so well done on penning a strong, unusual haiku - congrats on your win in my contest!

Gives the impression, in a confusing sort of way, of being rather implausible and rather nonsensical...works though -- and works well! Enjoyed -- cheers, Frances! :) john

Yes! An actor assumes different identities act to act but remains the same person. A tree changes colors winter to fall but it is the same recognizable tree. You changed as you grew but it is still you! The essence remains.
