National Pizza Day

Today’s the day to celebrate
A food that few dislike or hate
For pizza’s found most everywhere;
A town without it would be rare.

From big round pies served by the slice
To square Sicilians, all entice,
No matter if they’re topped with cheese
Or have more fancy pedigrees

‘Cause toppings vary; where you eat it
May decide what tops complete it –
Pepperoni, veggies, ham,
Pineapple or shrimp or clam

Sausage, meatballs, spinach, ‘shrooms,
Even tofu, one assumes.
Sprinkle with oregano
Or pepper flakes; you’re good to go.

We should all indulge today
So if you’re home or you’re away,
Go find yourself a sizzling slice
Of gastronomic paradise!

My mouth is watering, Ilene! A delicious poem in all respects! Glad you enjoyed Cletus O'Toole's latest escapade. As I understand it, the Navy teaches people to swim if they don't know how & won't boot them out of the Navy. Personally when I joined the AF I couldn't swim (& I still can only flop around in water) & they threw me in a pool but frankly I sank like a rock! But they tried but gave up on me!

It's the only fast-food I eat – with moderation. My town is mostly Italian so there are more than enough pizzerias to satisfy every pizza freak! My favorite is the all-vegetable topping with a thin (not bready) crust. My only complaint is the price. Large ones go for almost $20! I imagine for New Yorkers that's cheap. When split 4 ways, however, it's a bargain. Love your clever 'shrooms. / M

First time seeing, ‘shrooms. If you invented it, even better.
