Narcissist
Marvin looked at himself in the mirror glass
A pudgy kid, He thought his body looked wrong
Low self-esteem, the insults were crass
His mind could be hijacked by a song.
Years later, he found will power, got control
Body shaped up, health improved
The damage was done, it destroys a soul
But good things happened, goal posts moved.
Then a woman gave him a smile and a blush
Her blonde hair drove his unstable mind over the brink
He looked in the mirror, thought she had a crush
But he had a crush on himself, a vanity stink.
He admired himself, made silly speeches to the air
Started dancing away, a strange urge to be weird
The fairest of them all, or a delusion to despair
The image of this dancing in many minds was seared.
A dormmate took a movie, a hidden camera in the room.
A curse that followed Marvin to the ends of the earth
The video went viral, narcissism's tomb.
He had snapped back to normal, but what was that worth?
He lived an illusion, whether on the silver screen
Who he thought he was, who he thought she was too
Do the rest of us absorb visions that other want seen?
Do we stay within reason, do we stampede from what is true?
Some called him disgusting, some called him insane
And yes, there had been shock treatments, thorazine as well
Some expained him as "the Hebe", other found other names
At the end of the day, why open gates of hell?
