Names In History
It seemed so long ago from those high school scenes,
when we were young and filled with unimaginable dreams
then again, maybe it was just yesterday still today
ready for life to start and take us fast forward away.
Paging thru the years, the well planned themes
and soon forgotten reality is swept by swift moving streams
blended in the trials and labors each of us has made
of lives merged to find escape in lessons well paid.
How is it time moves by so fast
when every hope and dream doesn't seem to last?
The heartbeat of those dreamers of this earth
straining forward to succeed or fail by individual worth
beat on, strong and steady, ever ready
while time and history engraved the names into confetti.
A mark, a note, surely something shall remain
though others know not who we were nor recall our name
when time has passed and we each succumb
they see we marched well to the beat of humanity's drum.
Rest you fallen souls who once gave all
you are not deprived of fame and fortune's call
to your families, descendants and the like
is legacy of freedom and basic right.
Your name may be forgotten, lost, unrecognized
but the battle won moves forward ever alive
recorded in the history books
with freedom everywhere you look.
