My Yesterdays
I watched the sun set on my life,
Knowing where it went awry;
I put you with my yesterdays
And promptly said goodbye.
I put you on the corner shelf
In a box of fading gray,
Then took one final look at you.
And tucked you far away.
I couldn’t stand the thought of you,
So I purged each memory
Of hopes and dreams and silent screams
That you once shared with me.
I thought that if I left them there
I could surely start anew
But all the pieces of my heart
Were nothing without you.
I put you with my yesterdays
And alone I face the end,
Thinking only of my longing
For my discarded friend.
