My Worst Nightmare
Listen to poem:
My Worst Nightmare
David J Walker
My worst nightmare is
And he paused before
The mistakes could escape
His lips
Frozen in a moments time
The cast-iron statue
Resisted the rust
But could not trust
His slips
In a moments memory
long past its prime
My worst nightmare is
Thus and such
“The skilly use of words
had not forsaken him”
a boyish touch
A scally lad
A cad in the making
Though not so much
In the literal meaning
My worst nightmare is
And he paused again
In the dim light of
A pale dawn
To shrug off the last
Yawn
of an early morning
after
Wanton vandals
Invading his deepest dreams
Without warning
Stealing the
Mise-en-scène
Again
And again
