My Worst Enemy Is Anger

My Worst Enemy Is Anger

On the fire of anger I burned alone,
With dust of anxiety and a heart of stone.
Rage broke the peace of my beloved kingdom,
And left me wandering, lost and numb.

Like history did when two cities fell,
Hiroshima and Nagasaki knew that hell.
Buried in dust, in fire’s cruel breath,
Humanity died in a second of death.

Terrifying rays turned day to night,
Everything to ashes in one white light.
Generations faced the weight of rage,
A scar written on time’s own page.

Poisoned skies became a nightmare cover,
Anger destroyed what love could never.
In one decision, worlds were torn,
And innocence was left forlorn.

Yet one tree remained, its roots held tight,
A ginkgo standing through endless night.
No leaves, no hope, but still it grew,
A quiet vow that life breaks through.

So I lay down anger, my worst enemy,
And choose the green where I am free.
From ash and sorrow, let mercy bloom —
Let healing, not rage, fill every room.

It seems almost incredible, Nazia, that "Anger", that fierce usurper of the inward realm, should ever trespass upon so sublime a soul as thine. Yet perhaps only one who has descended deeply into the chambers of the human spirit can return bearing such profound poesy. 👏 I am persuaded that only those who have truly "indulged in the deep wells of shayari" can write with such depth of the passions that assail and undo us. Thy poem does not merely speak of anger—it interrogates its dominion, walks through its ashes, and emerges at last beneath the green sovereignty of mercy. And that, to me, is the noblest victory of thy verse: 'not that anger is conquered by force, but that the soul learns to answer fire with life.' 🔥 A deeply moving and philosophically luminous piece, Nazia. May thy pen continue its ascent from the ashes of the temporal toward the grace of the eternal. 🌿

Dear Mohit, Please accept my apologies for the delay in sharing the Urdu poetry I had promised. For the past month I have been busy with my professional responsibilities and also caring for my mother 24/7 due to her illness. These have been very challenging days, so I haven’t been able to write poetry. Inshallah, when God wills, I will definitely fulfill my promise and share some of Allama Iqbal’s work and my other favorite Urdu poets with you. Your word “Irshaad” made me smile even during these tough times. It was such a cute and thoughtful gesture 😊 May Allah bless you. Your poetry truly has a spark that can dispel darkness.

Dear Nazia, thy generous words humble me more than I can say. 🙏 I am but grateful that thou hast read my poor verses with so kind and discerning an eye. As for thy question—during my long tenure as an English teacher at Welham, I had the rare privilege of quenching an aged thirst for literature; methinks my quill first took its ink from those deep wells. Yet I have had no greater teacher than life itself: my lived experiences, my sincere observations of the human soul, and a deep craving to turn my gaze inward and know myself.👀 If aught of depth hath found its way into my verse, I can claim little merit for it; I have but gathered what life hath whispered to me in its quieter hours, and entrusted those whispers to my quill. ✍️ And I still await thy promised Shayari, Nazia—methinks I should have said but one word: **Irshaad!** ✨🌸

Thank you so much. Your comment is as beautiful as your poetry. 🙏 You have such a deep and strong understanding of the soul and human mind, just like a sadhu. "My Worst Enemy Is Anger" is not just poetry for me — it’s my reality. It’s an honest confession. I have faced that enemy a lot in life, and I’ve seen how anger can destroy so many things. For me, poetry is the best way to express the real experiences of life. Sometimes the truth is bitter, but it’s still the truth. And my question to you is: how do you think and write in such beautiful words? Who was your teacher in poetry? I would truly love to know.😍

Congratulations Nazia! Your poem took me on an intense journey of anger destruction with powerful metaphors, explicitly vivid and dark. Yet mercy blooms! Great work! Thank you! M
