My Wish

There was a time to see beyond the stars Then I could choose one at leisure Slightly asunder, uninhabited and forlorn Then I could sway it free… There was a way to circle around square discarded figures in search of time Now I have to dress lifeless limbs in time for burial Now I see nothing in symbols My thoughts scatter and hide in craters deep enough to swallow unsated fancies Now I lace stolen shadows unhidden and prominent inside Oh how childlike promises merge with drained accomplishments A faultless image could prize fables from distant dreams Today they all carry my yoke An ensemble of cheers and disgrace Resembles fate and lost embrace Oh how I wish my childhood would return
