My Vigil
When e'er you choose to leave this life
to rest from all the toil and strife
and lie down for that long, long sleep
I vow, I will this vigil keep
I swear, each morn I'll think of you
so you will live each day, anew
I'll make a fire, so our love's warm
and a place to keep it safe from harm
I'll see each facet of your face
and I'll recall each time and every place
I saw your smile and felt your touch,
those things that I will miss so much
I swear each night, I'll dream of you
of things we shared, of those we knew
I'll count the laughter and the tears;
I'll count them all, for all the years
and as I wake from where I've been
I'll smile again, for I'll have seen
the one whose love was always true,
I swear that I'll remember you
