My Unborn Child
Each day I wonder why you never had a chance to be
I know you're in a better place but wish you were with me
And how I wanted so much for you to just be born
Your brother and sisters hug me tight, but for you I still must mourn
Would you have been my little girl or my baby boy
Either one, I did not care, you would have been my joy
Never heard your laugh or your little cry
Did you look like me or have your Mommy's eyes
I even still reach out and let you take my hand
Then we walk along the beach, but only my footprints in the sand
First day of school arrives and the bell will ring
Here I stand alone because you I couldn't bring
Then the night arrives for your big first date
If you were my daughter, this boy I'd probably hate
Now you want the keys and ask me how to drive
I sit down in the car but you do not arrive
We'll never have the chance to watch your high school play
There will be no cap and gown or graduation day
There will not be a wedding, you'll never say "I do"
Or have a chance to move away, so that I can miss you
I won't be able to admire the way that you have grown
Wish that I could witness how you raise those children of your own
Though you're in my heart and mind, there will always be some pain
And all those thoughts of you bring these tears, my rain
I can not wait to meet you, so I'll no longer weep
Until that day arrives, I pray the Lord your soul to keep
