My Students

Within a bag of teaching stuff I saved when I retired Were notes and poems by students To a teacher they admired. How gratified I felt to read I’d opened many eyes To poetry and novels (Even grammar – no surprise!) Those students were in middle school So now they’re all adults. I wonder if my teaching Had some tangible results. No way to really know, but still, I hope they love to read And if they write some poetry, I’ve done my job, indeed.

hmmm, did I ever know you were a teacher and then forgot it? That's so cool. I was supposed to be Spanish teacher secondary ed, but I realized I was not good enough to teach it, so I went to a private ESL school to teach in my minor. THe pay sucks and I have no pension plan, but it's been so rewarding as you have said here about your own students.

I’m sure you inspired many, Ilene. Your rhyme is spendiferous. If you showed them the beauty of the rhyming word, I’m sure they’ll all feel less absurd. Nice write, Ilene. My teacher said ‘Nice’ is a wishy washy word, but I like it… so there! Terry
