The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide
Listen to poem:

My Spirit’s Standing Tall

Went down to the clinic; the doctor shook his head.
Went down to the clinic; the doctor shook his head.
Said, “There's a shadow in your body, son,
but there's still a road ahead.”

Sat in that white room, watching shadows on the wall.
Sat in that white room, watching shadows on the wall.
Lord, the hardest part of waiting
is not knowing what they'll call.

They gave me something strong to chase the bad away.
They gave me something strong to chase the bad away.
I'm burnin' down my own house
just to keep the ghost at bay.

The hospital coffee's strong enough to strip the paint.
The hospital coffee's strong enough to strip the paint.
I asked the nurse for sugar;
she said, “Honey, you need a saint.”

My hair fell out in handfuls, so I gave it one last comb.
My hair fell out in handfuls, so I gave it one last comb.
Now every time I look in the mirror,
I swear that bald man's getting on.

My hair might be fallin', but my spirit's standing tall.
My hair might be fallin', but my spirit's standing tall.
I've still got some living left,
and I'm gonna live it all.

I've still got some living left,
and I'm gonna live it all.
