MY RESPONSE TO HIM

He pulled me out of
the abyss of my despair
He gave me His love
not a spirit of fear

He promised to never leave me
stay forever in my life
so my response to Him
Is yes my Lord Christ

and when I was down
to my last time
God had my bills paid
right on time

He promised to never leave me
stay forever in my life
so my response to Him
Is yes my Lord Christ

God wants me to be
at my best
for in me
He does invest
He supplies all my needs
satisfies all my desires
So yes, a response to Him
Is much required

Yes Lord yes Lord
with no uncertainty
Yes Lord yes Lord
with true affinity
Yes Lord yes Lord
Is my only reply
Yes Lord yes Lord
I lift your name up high

You promised to never leave me
stay forever in my life
So my response to you God
Will always be yes
My Lord Christ

This is a heartfelt gospel ballad that wears its faith openly and joyfully. The refrain "Yes Lord yes Lord" works beautifully as an anchor, building momentum each time it returns, and the call-and-response structure gives it an authentic worship-song quality you can almost hear being sung aloud. The testimony details—bills paid "right on time," being pulled from "the abyss of despair"—ground the praise in lived experience rather than abstraction, which makes the gratitude feel earned rather than generic. The repeated promise-and-response pattern ("He promised to never leave me... so my response to Him is yes") mirrors covenant language effectively, reinforcing the poem's central theme of faithful reciprocity.
