My Pet Hate -- Losing My Temper

Hate is a four-letter-word that I just hate hearing
Worse than words thought worse, considered swearing
What I really, truly hate more than anything, however
Is when I lose my temper -- something I should never do ever

They say a decent person only sins when he's overcome
By a spirit of nonsense; better he be struck dumb
For sin is one thing; temper's altogether quite another
As the latter's consequences can for a lifetime matter

Lose your temper once with a child; you may have ruined that child's life
And never ever lose your temper with your darling wife
The Bard's dictum of 'Hell hath no Fury like a woman scorned'
You'll soon understand, wishing you had never been born

Hate is an awful thing; may from the world it forever cease
But losing one's temper's worse, turning man into beast

For sure~ losing the temper is a beast. There are words that bother me, but that's my problem. I don't get why hate is a bad word, it's a word. It's the action from it, Eeks. Fun being in the same contest.. Doubtful I will win, Panagiota

Join the club. I am also dubious as to my chances in this (or any) contest. My track record shows why... That's ok. We're not in business to win contests here. Enjoy writing your poetry, and I'll enjoy reading it. Best wishes, Gershon

My late Mother always said to, "never let hate in"; for whatever her reason, she was adamant about it. When someone try's my patience, I remind myself that they are unhappy with themselves; it makes it easier to forgive. I am floored, at how much hate is really in the world; if only that energy were put towards something more constructive, what would life be like then...I wonder.

Wow! Your comment pierces the fog of contemporary life: Just convert the energy fueling hatred and let it fuel positivity, constructive deeds, and love. What a winner that would be! Sounds like there's a poem in there awaiting you. :) gw

Two serious demons...often temper jumps into fight first while hate prays in temple...

Always best to walk away and cool down rather than do something you might regret. Tom

The old count to 10 adage, and if that doesn't work count to 100 or 1,000! Thanks for the observation, Tom. ~ Gershon
