Notes About The Poem

My Old Broken Heart

My Old Broken Heart

Seated right across from me
unsure where to start.
I sat down to have a talk
with my old broken heart.

He said it's good to see me
it seems it's been awhile.
He told me I'm looking good
it's nice to see me smile.

I wished that I could say the same
so filled with hurt and pain.
I knew the things I put it through
the scars all still remain.

Recalling nights there in the dark
when we sat all alone.
I was everything he had
and he was everything I own.

The conversation seemed to wane
there wasn't much to say.
He seemed to know the reasons why
each time I looked away.

I began to say I'm sorry
for all I put him through.
And tell him that I felt his pain
each time he broke in two.

He shook his head as if to say
don't pay me any mind.
It was worth every tear I cried
for the peace I'd someday find.

With all the love I loved him with
through all those times before.
I reached out to my old heart
and loved it even more.

Thank you for the memories
I'll miss you my old friend.
But all the hurts of yesterday
are like leaves now in the wind.

As far as East is from the West
and as far as I can see.
I said goodbye to my broken heart
and hello to things to be.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I dunno what you rub a broken heart with but try breaking your arm or your leg...lots of good liniments on the market with plenty of volunteers! LOL
