My Monster Is Dead

my monster is dead?
terror reigns the midnight hours
rambunctiously my blankets and pillows scatter about.
heart racing, gasping for air,
I flick on my light just to prove
 my monster is not there.
my monster is dead.
years you lay dormant
not a thought or a care
your body has perished but your presence still there,
get out of my head.
Damn it monster you are finally dead!
I forgave you long ago as the beastly visions slowly faded away until today.
My monster is dead.
scars for life way down deep
now that you're gone please let me sleep in peace.
My monster is dead.
