My Mask

Sometimes, I need to put
My mask on, too
To hide from everyone
What I am going through

The mask covers
My sadness deep within
What I have fought for
I never could win

It covers up frustration and anxiety
It then turns to anger,
I have no idea why
The broken heart, is torn in two
Try not to cry and let out a sigh

At times, you wish life was through
Because of what people say or do
So the mask stays on for awhile
Til I feel it is safe to take off, too

I think we all hide behind a mask from time to time - a simple smile can mask how you truly feel but you 'wear' it to cover up your emotions - the words of the song 'behind a painted smile spring to mind' Hugs Jan xxx

Oh I can relate to that one big time Melanie at the moment I hide behind a smile mask as my father is terminally ill with cancer - its tough but sometimes you just have to smile through the pain! Hugs Jan xxx
