My Love
I lived a life I am not so proud
I use to follow with the crowd
I drank, I smoked, I slept around
I never knew where love was found
I searched and searched for love for me
In places love can never be
I thought for sure someone would see
That special person I could be
The pain I caused to those so dear
My kids, my family, and others near
I wanted love, that’s all I need
Someone to love me more than thee
The love I found would never be
The love I needed just for me
My heart became an open book
And everyone seemed to take a look.
Then one day it dawned on me
The love I needed was from me you see
It took some time to say the least
Loving me meant loving the beast
Did I deserve my own true love
Could I make myself rise above
The hardest part was forgiving my past
And accepting me for my downcast
The only love I ever needed
Was found once I succeeded.
You must love yourself
Before you love anyone else.
