My life is a curse

I don’t readily admit
To the things that I feel
My brain, steady turning
Spinning my wheels

I attempt masking pain
I cut up and joke
Paint on my best smile
While inside, I choke

I portray myself sailing
In sweet, salty wind
Pretend I’m content
To dwell in my skin

The truth is, I’m trapped
My flesh is disgusting
I long to crawl out
No more feeling or touching

Abandon this vessel
And soar away free
Escape these demons
No longer be me

To perhaps be another
Or nothing at all
To know no regret
All shame would dissolve

Some days, a bit better
While some are far worse
But, I’ve done something wrong
My life is a curse
