My Life

This heavy wheel that turns with reluctance;
A jejune affair of slippery opportunity and chance;
Upon which the malicious weight of fate descended,
And thus lazily rolls to a direction unintended,
Is my puny life that I cherish to have;
A rather lofty portion that the Almighty gave
When into this world I was born,
To squeeze out of its rocks the sweet juice of renown.

I fear what might become of this little thing
That is my precarious and brittle life;
A flimsy and short thing replete with strife
That does incessantly inflict its venomous sting.
