The Whiskey Taster’s Flavor Guide

My Last Day On Earth

When I woke up today
I didn’t forget to pray
When I walked out of the door
I kissed my loved ones once more
When I saw my foes, I said “hi!” anyway
They replied “ there she goes , no care in the world, silly girl!”
The bum on the corner appreciated my quarter
As I went into the deli for the daily news
Then I went around the block at a neighbor’s house I stopped
And gave her daughter a pair of brand new shoes
Next, I visited my friends that I haven’t seen in awhile
Some of them got married
Others had a child
I called old boyfriends and forgave them one by one
And spoke of past relationships like
“it’s been real, it’s been fun”
I went to my old jobs, the ones that I quit
And the ones that had me fired
My approach was so suave, I could’ve gotten rehired
I called everyone that I owed and promised that
I’d stop hiding
And to make it more official, I put it all in writing
I called my dad whom I haven’t seen in years
And told him I missed him dearly
And fought back tears
I went to the graves of the dearly departed
And said a prayer that even the dead could hear
The lost lives of so many left me brokenhearted
But, I promised to meet them in the air
Alas, I went to a hospital and gave
The sick my love
All these things I did today
I am surely out of breath
For all these years I wasted away
Brings me closer to death
I have made amends and pampered my friends
I love each stranger in a brotherly way
I should love and let love live
Keep a little and the rest I give
For I never know if it is my last day
