My Golden Little Cat
If my golden little cat could smile and talk
Like we humans often do,
He would boldly say to me;
Please guide me near the sea
Where I could find some fishermen observing
The rapid movement of the tidal waves,
Upon the mighty ocean.
I could there enjoy some fish smoked
By the native women
who live along the coast:
The sun of prosperity is brightly glowing;
I could stretch myself in the moonlight
By dusk.
Lo,the night speedily hastens on
And I could catch a mouse strolling upon the green grass
Or worming its way to find shelter in a hole.
Sing some lullabies so I could rest awhile
Long before you retire to bed
While I stay outdoor here
To keep watch and play
With our neighbor's
young child.
