My Fortress, My Toll

Who is this, at my door
No more guests can I endure
With shallow eyes and a solid brow
I will let you in, but not yet, not now

The time will come for us to embrace
The music of voices at first interface
It will be near, it will be soon
Do not let fate destroy your dune

The knob is twirling, as to barge right in
I must protect thyself and kin!
For no matter what may come this way
It will not make my heart its prey

Keep all evil thoughts outside
Good will is one of the notorious prides
This I may, this I might
This encounter might start clean, but end in a fight

The cowardly ways of all those in the past
Do not let them dig in, do not let the pain last
The condescending acts and slurs that are heard
Can this really be a trustworthy’s word?

No matter, it will not have a taste of my soul
It is stopped at my door, my fortress, my toll
Let them continue to steer, on their down-winding slope
Never to see again, my heart, their rope
