My First Date

My First Date contest-sponsored by Carol Brown 7-2-2011

My First Date

It was the summer of 1988
the year of my first blind date.
not really a date, more of a favor
for another day of dating service guy's labor.
Not one thing in like
except we both own a bike.
In a way I feel sad
for powdered blue polyester clad Tad
Conversations on bugs
plastic pen holders, and build your own mugs.
Glancing up at the numbers
the hands straight and tense
trying hard to focus on the cloudy, cracked coke bottle lens.
The food was the only good
made up for the sighs
A cold, clammy handshake
only 2 words too many-"good-bye."
Racing inside
I walk to my car.
Tad hops on his bike
honks his rubber loud horn.
I politely honk back
can't wait for the new morn.

This was so funny, you in a car and him on a bike? What a weird first date you had!! (not sure but check the rules. I think she said just do narrative or bio style). Anyway, I sure enjoyed this.
