My Final Job As Your Brother

The call I got was no big request. Check on my best friend From his girlfriend, no less. The day was quite normal No plans to attend My job was simple, go check on my friend The car ride was simple, just small talk of him What the reasons could be for the absence of my friend Maybe he’s sleeping, maybe he just passed out In the back of my mind, I held so much doubt. I grabbed the keys and I walked to the door Then I knocked and I joked, “it’s just me, nothing more”. I told Megan to stand back, while I made my way in. Nobody deserves to see things this grim. I turned the lock, and opened the door, and the smell rushed us both, it was hard to ignore. I rushed in I closed the door Then I turned to see you My world shattered, no words. There lay my brother. My friend from the start. Right there I melted, right then broke my heart. Alone In his bed, his skin blue and grey. My silence in this moment had everything to say. I screamed out my Lungs, called you all the worst thoughts The shock of my brother, laid there to rot. As I took your hand, prayed by your side, I felt only anguish to see you void of life. With a kiss on your forehead, and a few Choice words My mind began to absorb the absurd. I could barely speak My soul broke apart Finding you in your room Destroyed this poets heart I know my minds dark But it’s strong as most others The dreams still torture me Those of my cold dead brother. I did my job, Shawn. I was there for you until the end. Now what? D.R.L.

Thank you so much, that means so much to me. It’s been 4 months since his passing and I hadn’t read this in a while. It was nice to find out somebody connected with it. God bless.
