My Favorite President Is Yet To Be

My favorite President is yet to be
He may well not go down in history
For he'll do what really needs to be done
Antagonizing almost everyone under the sun

First he'll fix Social Security; it's running short of cash
Upping retirement age to 68, a move the 'swamp' will call rash
Then he'll crack down on Medicare/Medicaid fraud and crime
Infuriating the clout-heavy cheaters in America's medicinal slime

Next he'll free up school choice for the poor, not just the rich
More vouchers and charter schools: teachers unions will yell and beech
He'll clean up the ghettos, bust up the gangs, and load up the jails
Violent felons and their Park Avenue backers will want him impaled

He'll break the stranglehold on free speech and inquiry in universities
Big-tech CEO's will squirm, when he ends their totalitarian strip-tease
He'll repair the military, building the strongest defense ever
Daring China and Russia to come get us -- They won't; they're too clever

He'll veto delusionary pork projects which taxpayers can't afford
Boosting old-fashioned 'capitalism' -- for that he will not be adored
As for climate change, he'll pressure China, India and the other slackers
To reign in their CO2 abuse, while the world calls him a bully and hacker

Truth is, my favorite President-to-be will probably never get elected
And if somehow he does, I hope from angry mobs he'll be protected

~ Inspired by, but not an entry in L. Milton Hankins'
                        'Your Favorite President Contest' ~

It's hard to see a leader with the courage to do what's right being protected from the angry mobs. Enjoyed the poem. Best wishes for 2021.

Hello Gershon … a leader is only a ventriloquist doll for a political party and with self interests it’s impossible to get the right person which is a terrible shame - you certainly have valid points Gershon - Lindsay

Ah, 99.9% of the time I agree with you, but a Leader, a real Leader, is not merely a ventriloquist doll for his party, as Abraham Lincoln was not. Real leaders find important issues and important moments where they step out of their party role, and then they provide actual leadership. That's their greatness. Unfortunately, it's been over 150 years for the USA since Lincoln. (I believe that other examples of great leaders were: Emperor Franz Josef, John F. Kennedy, and Menachem Begin). Again, they are rare and hard-to-find. Peace, Gershon

These days, the 'she's' are 'he's' in pantsuits. Women who enter politics, in my opinion, are just like the men they want to replace: 'Politics is the last resort of scoundrels,' -- William Shakespeare, over 400 years ago. Still applies today. (That's why I criticize them so much... I really don't criticize others; but they are what they are what they are). If I've offended you, well, consider Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, and all the other crass opportunists. Are they one whit better than Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, or Mike Pence? They aren't, are they? In fact, Harris couldn't tie Pence's shoes. He's the least scoundrel-like of almost any politician I can think of. Cheers, Gershon

Hi Gershon, I agree with your message. Presidents/politicians never live up to the promises made prior to getting elected. Well done:-) Alexis

Hey, Rico! You're certainly right there (about the flat tax)... Thanks for pointing it out, and (thanks in advance?) perhaps reread what I wrote below: My claim was that Trump would have kept over 90% of his promises --- but for Congress and public opinion. The flat tax, for example, was 'dead on arrival' in the court of public opinion, not to mention Congress... As for BBC, Fox News, and all the rest: I do not own a TV and I am not on social media either... All that said, thank you again for your comments, and as well, for challenging me. Your words certainly penetrate my conscience and my thick skull... Write on, friend! Peace and Tranquility, Gershon

Nonsense! Trump said he would enact a Flat Tax for everyone earning less than $100,000 p.a. on "Day 1" which would have reduced federal expenditures by billions, but Day 1 came and went - as did Trump's term in office - without a Flat Tax every being mentioned again. Try watching the BBC instead of FOX News! Aloha! Rico

Yup. There's something called Congress, and another thing called public opinion. Both get in Presidents' ways. Otherwise, I think that Mr. Trump would have kept over 90% of his promises. He really tried to, but he just couldn't muster enough support for the 'Wall' or for repealing 'Obamacare.' Otherwise, Trump pretty much did what he said he'd do -- and then some. ! ~ Gershon

For sure he does not exist and never will in today's society. He certainly is not a "modern" Democrat or Republican either. I know not everyone liked Lincoln, but for me, he is as good as it ever got. This one a FAVE for me.

I like Lincoln the best as well; Eisenhower a distant second... Thank you so much for the FAVE, Andrea. Much appreciated. ~ Gershon

Thanks for your support, Krish... I don't want to give the sponsor a hard time... Maybe if I knew him, I'd give it a whirl... But I'd rather play by the rules... Thanks again, Gershon

President of the LBS is my logical next step, Anne-Lise... What? You mean you haven't heard of the 'LBS.' Why, I thought everyone was familiar with us by now. It stands for Lazy Bum Society. As Vice-President for the last 32 years, I think it's time to make my move -- but I just can't get myself up off the couch here... Ciao, Gershon

You humor me so well, Tom. Thanks for the tip of the cap, but if nominated, I refuse to run -- except off at the mouth, per usual. lol. How about you to replace that phony Prince Charles over on your side of the pond. I'm in your corner! ~ gw

I'm going to 'shot put' this one in a contest. Hope it doesn't land on my feet. lol... Seriously, Rama, this poem doesn't adhere to the rules of the contest, so there's no point entering it (and driving the sponsor a bit crazy)... Thanks for the praise. Appreciated. Peace, Gershon

Uh-oh. Time to impeach Biden then -- 47 years on 'The Hill.' lol. ... Don't worry; it really is as hopeless as it seems, Richard... I can assure you it's much worse in Israel and India, two countries I know pretty well. ~ Just sayin'

Ha, ha! As JFK said: "Some people ask 'Why?' Others ask 'Why not?' Gershon asks 'What the Hell?'" Well, OK, the quote is slightly altered, I admit. But then again, what the freak do people think I paid so much for? -- NOT TO USE my 'poetic license.' lol. Kim, Ain't we got fun? If nominated, I refuse to run, except 'off' at my (big) mouth. Cheers, Gershon
