My Father, My Friend

I wrote this poem for my dad, who had asked me to write him one. Since then, things have changed and we are no longer in each other's lives. But at the time, these words were truly from my heart. My Father, My Friend As a child I lived in a desolate world, one filled with sadness and pain. I took comfort in the warmth of the sun, desperate to shake off the cold of the rain. I longed for a shoulder to lean on, for someone to lovingly calm my fears. Praying for a kind word, a reassuring smile, a gentle hand to wipe my tears. Through the whisper of an Angels wings, He spoke to me one night in a dream. He said, " Don't ever lose hope little one, you are never as lost as you seem." And just when I was about to lose faith, you appeared in my life, an unexpected surprise. This man I call father, this man I call friend; a true miracle in disguise. So I may not have always known you, but you were hidden there deep in my heart. I believed one day you'd find me, for it was written long ago in God's chart. He took the time to answer this child's prayer, one He'd heard from Heaven above. He promised me you, a father, a friend of my own, that someone to return my love. 2006 - T.M.
