Notes About The Poem

This brevity poem was inspired by Ink Empess' recent poem "Concerto of Psychosis". Please be sure to go read that phenomenal penning, if you haven't already!!

My Empire of Ashes

My Empire of Ashes

Who am I without my dark throne?
I am the King of this crumbling castle, alone.
The ruler of this empire of ashes.
A child with an empty box of matches.
A King with a madness profound,
Everything that I have loved, I’ve burnt to the ground.

Dark, yet a reality still. The second today I've wanted to read more than once to fully take in. Very nice Edward

Great image to go with your lovely words. "Everything that I have loved, I’ve burnt to the ground." It's a ritual of people who secretly just want love.

Maybe behavior of someone who has never experienced love, hence doesn’t know how to love. Seems like a protective mechanism, or in some case perhaps a behavioral or psychological disorder. IDK?? Out of my area of expertise. Thank you for reading and commenting my dear Tonye, always a pleasure!!

Hi Nancy. This one is not part of any challenge or contest; just a quick thought that was inspired from the poetess Ink Empress. A brevity on my childlike self. I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for reading and commenting. May happiness and peace find you beneath the Sun’s light.

Dear edward, this poem is so good! And what a picture to go with the poem, so fitting. “Crumbling castle” “ empire of ashes” “empty box of matches” and that last line hits so strong! Soulful and dark rhymes that flow so eloquently! In few lines youv said it all! Im pleased to see you were inspired. Thank you for mentioning and for encouraging others to read me: pleasure reading your work. Sending you light

Ouch! This one hurts, esp. since I've burned too many bridges myself. Well-captured, Edward! ~ Gershon

Hey Gershwin, thank you for stopping by and sitting a spell. It’s nice to have you. I am so pleased this piece resonated with you, albeit somewhat melancholic and regretful. Enjoy your day my friend
