My Digital Boyfriend

My digital boyfriend messages me every day

At first, he had so much to say

He can’t type fast enough, it seems

He even followed up with funny memes

My digital boyfriend dings me every morning

Bringing waves of dopamine without warning

I’m locked in and magnified by his attention

My solution to emptiness aroused by affection

My digital boyfriend sends me his picture

My gaze embraces it like an enchanted elixir

He presses the like button on everything I post

And leaves an emoji on jokes he likes most

My digital boyfriend and I made our avatars

We enhanced them without our emotional scars

But I see he is active on this other thread

While for hours my message is left unread

My digital boyfriend only talks online

Face to face dates he’ll always decline

“Read my words not my actions, darling

I don’t use labels and this is just a fling.”

My digital boyfriend hides behind the screen

Slowly withdrawing and being increasingly mean

I frantically press this button and that

Wondering why he left our flirty chat

Now my digital boyfriend no longer appears

His glitches returned among his many fears

His likes are gone and his battery is dead

Yet the fantasy we built still remains in my head

Dear Michele, Its sad, they give you a dopamine boost, electronic or physical, but still when dopamine is deficit in their absence it surely wud hurt. You wrote well on this subject, did make me smile as its refreshing to read such straightforward language. I especially love the wordplay that fits this electronic emotionship youv expressed. Iv read and heard about such situations where those online bfs decline meetng in real life. Its best to not trust anyone online these days: pleasure reading. Sending you light

Thank you so much, I appreciate your kindness. Yes, dating in the modern world isn't as personal as I what I'm used to in Gen X times. Sending you love and light in return.
