My Dear Sister

We were both born in November
               ....... just two years apart
Having you as my big sister
....... I was off to a great start
You were much more than a sister
....... also a confident and friend
Through our troublesome childhood
...... on you I could depend
In protecting me you instilled
              ...... much courage and love
Not to dwell on the actions and hatred of others,
              ...... to rise above
Inseparable we always were
...... like two peas in a pod
A special and unique pairing
              ...... thoughtfully arranged by God
You plead with me, to fetch you
....... water, books and other stuff
I lovingly did it
              ...... while pretending to huff
Doing your insistent bidding
...... how could I not comply
You sweetly stating " I love you most "
...... with a twinkle in your eye
Endless hours spent together playing
...... monopoly, cribbage and gin rummy
We made our own joy
              ...... when life got crummy
Sharing the same bedroom
              ...... until our late teens
Making countless memories
              ...... and sharing dreams
In our twenties we worked together
              ...... side by side
Even living in the same building
              ...... we did reside
We had more time together
...... then most siblings ever get
That we're not still together
              ....... is a heartbreaking regret
Cancer came along and swiftly
              ...... made its claim
Life without you in it
...... is sadly not the same
I couldn't fathom so young
              ...... that you would depart
But dear sister you will forever remain
              ...... deep in my heart

What a lovely heartfelt tribute, Cecilia! I am sorry for the loss of your sister. I can understand what it must have felt like at that age, especially considering the close relationship there was between you. ~ Hugs // paul

The beautiful love you've expressed here is foreign to me. Yet you make me feel like I know it. You are a strong beautiful woman Cecilia.

It s a really sad and heartfelt write, nothing can be worse than losing a loved one, your whole life becomes like hell and the worse thing is that the life still continue, no matter what happens, we still live, my mother have a smaller sister and God, thsy are so close, better than any friends, and now just because of her sister, my mother has brought our new house a street away from her. About death, where there is life, there s death, every soul will taste it, good luck and stay strong

oh my, so sad, Cecilia!!! All my sisters and I are but a a few years apart in age (four of us born within five years) We will always be the best of friends.Did you have other siblings at all? I am the oldest and had cancer and am doing all I can so that it does not return. That is how I could relate to this poem so well. (however, as the oldest, I did not ask my sisters to run errands for me. heehee)
