My Daughter No Longer a Child
I can't remember
when I no longer
had to look down
to see your face.
I can't remember
when you no longer
wore that blue tattered
and sun-stained dress.
I can't remember
when your hand opened
to touch that cosmos
and taste the rain.
My memory fails me
when I recall-
you spun the silk
and dropped your hair.
I see your posture
when you walk slowly
and take small steps
on river rocks.
I can't remember
when I first loved you
you are my heart-beat
my hands
my hair...
