My Children, Don'T Cross That Bridge

MY CHILDREN, DON’T CROSS THAT BRIDGE

Don’t take another step.
Each step takes you closer
to a lonely place called despair.
Hold your ground there.
No more steps you will regret.

Your foot is almost on the bridge.
Your back to a life of truth.
Your eyes upon a smoky haze.
Don’t take another step.
Do not trade honor for disgrace.

One foot is on the bridge?
Still time to turn around.
Look what you leave behind,
Don’t throw the pearls away.
to be trampled by the uncaring swine.

Don’t take another step.
Do not cross that bridge.
Behind you is where you belong.
Turn around and you will find
someone to lead you on the high road.
