My Autistic Child

Dear child. Quiet child. You sit there on the couch your little feet tucked under you your thumb stuck in your mouth What goes on in your head? What do you think about? Occasionally you say a word one word, and that’s okay. I know you’re smart I know you’re bright and, oh, I love you so! But when you’re caught in that place you go overwhelmed with such frustration I hate to see you so upset and it just breaks my heart! I wish I could make it all go away that your life could be easier that you were able to say the words that you need to express how you feel But there’s no magic potion there’s no charm or spell just us, my sweet child and even though you’re only three you and I have a deal that no matter how hard or frustrating life can be I will always love you and you will always love me
