Music Memories
Music Memories
I am flipping through my LP’s and forty-fives. Long ago memories captured for posterity. I look at the cover art, lost in today’s digital world. As I go through them, I think of the artists and musicians who crafted this wonderful music and were an escape from a troubled existence:
Simon and Garfunkel—The sounds of silence have caught up to me
Robert Zimmerman—That great poet-You ain’t agoin’ nowhere
CCR-dancing with Willy and the po’ boys down on the corner
The Guess Who-Randy Bachman and his love for American Woman
The Temptations-David Ruffin crooning about his girl
Steppenwolfe-Taking that magic carpet ride
The Doors—Jim breakin’ on through to the other side
Warren Zevon-watch out for that werewolf in London
Country Joe and The Fish—It’s one, two, three, four what are we fightin’ for
Brewer and Shipley—sittin’ in a railway station one toke over the line-Ah
Mick and the Gang—Rollin’ them tumbling dice while he struts his stuff
The Beatles—Rocky Raccoon fallin’ into his room
The Band---Gotta’ get back to miss Fannie she’s the only one
Sam Cooke—Glad I’m not workin’ on the chain gang
Cat Stevens—It is time to make a change-Father and Son
The Who-smashing guitars -Does mama really have a squeeze box?
Zager and Evans—Cant wait for the year 2525
Van Morrison—I love my Tupelo Honey
CSN—Too bad Joni didn’t make it to Woodstock?
Otis Redding-was takin’ it easy sittin’ by the dock of a bay
Don McLean-remembering his idols-the day the music died
Ricky Nelson-discovered you can’t please everyone-gotta please yourself
Peter, Paul and Mary-Puff the Magic Dragon was not about drugs-yeah right
Where has all of the good music gone, a long time passin’
