Mother
Listening to a tiny heart that beats inside her womb,
Tears of joy pour down her cheeks, she smiles.
‘I love you my child’ she says.
You look at her teary-eyed pointing to a bruise
She tends to your wound and smiles
‘I love you dear.’ she says.
I don’t want to eat broccoli you scream,
You throw the plate down, it shatters.
She says, ‘You won’t be strong like your father then…’
A sorry is said and some broccoli is eaten
‘I love you' she says, still smiling.
Finish your breakfast she yells.
With a busy and half-hearted tone, you say, ‘ok mom’
It’s lunch and your growling stomach yells.
You notice your favorite food in your lunch box and smile.
‘I love you mom’ is said as you chomp away.
A call is missed again, now at 18
You grab another drink with your friends.
A curfew is forgotten, a mother yells.
You rush to your room and collapse.
She covers you with a blanket and kisses you on the forehead
‘I love you, you silly little thing’ she leaves.
A job is secured and marriage proposed.
‘I love you both so much.’ she says
As she holds your baby twins in her now frail arms.
She says to you, 'They look like your wife’
You smile the same smile you did in yesteryears past.
You remember how mother took care of you back then.
The smile, still stuck, More love is shared.
Your wife, now the mother to your cute little children.
You realize the mother has changed.
