Most Self Conscious Age of All

She is uncomfortable
Thinking they are all staring at her
She can barely look up

They are twelve and thirteen
Most not noticing her at all
Too concerned about their own flaws

One thinks they are staring at his zit
Another is sure they are staring at her frizzy perm
Most self conscious age of all

Middle school dance
Critical beyond belief
Misunderstanding the beauty of this age

Hi Caren, this poignant poem captures teenage angst and gawkiness so very well. Good post!
