Morning Prayer
I go to bed every night after I pray
Let peace embrace me while I’m asleep
Let the morning light show me the way
Of my journey for I have promises to keep.
My sleep breaks every morning when I hear
The first sound of a couple of grey pigeon
From the nest made outside a window near
I know it’s time to get up, take the day on.
I see a slice of sky through the window
Emerge from the veil of night as a shy dawn
Changing color by minutes from gray to yellow
As the sun slowly rises touching the horizon.
A divine ecstasy flutters like a bird in my mind
As I see the rising sun spreading golden ray
Striking my eyes it makes me almost blind
With the eyes closed I welcome the new day.
Mind sunk in stillness I pray in deep meditation
Let the darkness within me be lighted by the sun
Let the new day be filled with blissful elation
And into a good human being to you all I turn.
