More Time

Oh, that I would have had more time,
For there were things that I would say,
But you were struck down in your prime.

For Death engaged in favored crime,
And snatched you off the beaten way;
Oh, that I would have had more time.

It seems his preferred paradigm.
Perhaps, with warning, held at bay,
But you were struck down in your prime.

He, like a thief with skills sublime,
There in plain sight, in light of day;
Oh, that I would have had more time.

My soul, encased in winter clime,
In tattered sorrows, downcast, gray,
But you were struck down in your prime.

Through jagged peaks, I'd eager climb
To meet but for the briefest stay.
Oh, that I would have had more time,
But you were struck down in your prime.

I understand those feelings only to well Jeff, having lost my wife age 63.

Hi John, I'm very sorry to hear that. I think I was playing with the form a bit, but this one needs a do-over for my personal situation, and I intend to see if I can write its companion. My mother was called home at 83, hardly her prime, and painlessly so, just sat down in a chair one night, and didn't get up. So a blessing for her, but loss and a sense of an uncompleted conversation for us.
