More

“I wish I had more,” he said to his stuff.
“What I have now isn’t nearly enough.”
He looked at the room, could not see the floor,
And said once again, “I wish I had more.”

“I wish I had more!” This played in his mind
All day and he just couldn’t leave it behind.
His neighbors and co-workers had toys galore.
His jealousy grew. “I wish I had more!”

“I wish I had more! Just look at it all.
To you it seems much, to me it is small.
I have but one of these things. I need four!
I must have a spare! I wish I had more!”

“I wish I had more!” But lacking the space,
He constantly stepped on the stuff in his place.
So, he knew exactly what he would wish for:
More shelves and more drawers… “I wish I had more!”

“I wish I had more!” So, shopping he went.
His cash soon was gone. His money was spent.
Once home, he could not get it all through the door.
It sits in the yard. “I wish I had more!”

“I wish I had more!” He can’t lay in bed.
No room on the mattress for resting his head.
His life is a shambles. His home an eyesore.
But down in his heart… “I wish I had more!”
