Moonlight Sleigh Ride
The frightful storm is o'er, now all is so serene.
Mellow moonbeams now enhance this wondrous wintry scene!
Across the celestial dome, stars twinkle so very bright,
Adding more luster to this magnificent moonlit night!
The gaily festooned sleigh glides silently o'er the snow,
Laden with festive revelers, faces all aglow!
Svelte steeds trot steadily o'er snowy hill and dell.
Melodic tunes chime merrily from each tiny harness bell!
The family snuggles under heavy robes clad in bright apparel.
Dad sings a little off-key as Mom leads in joyous carol!
Mom keeps hot cider flowing to fill each empty mug.
Recalling days of yore, Dad slyly steals a tender kiss and hug!
The kids urge Dad to make the horses go a little faster.
"No", says he, "with drifts ahead we'd surely court disaster!"
So they settle back continuing their excited, breathless chatter,
Lulled by the swaying sleigh and the hooves rhythmic clatter!
Alas, the happy excursion must come to a reluctant end.
Glowing candles light the windows of home just around the bend.
Beckoning gleeful sojourners to gather by the glowing fireside,
To recount the exhilaration of a memorable moonlight ride!
