Monsters
MONSTERS
By Roy Merritt
There's a monster in my closet
A monster 'neath my bed
There's a monster in the attic
With other things I dread
There's a monster in the yard
There's a monster down the street
There are monsters in my shoes
They like to pinch my feet
There are monsters in the basement
Monsters in my dreams
There are monsters everywhere
Or so it seems
There are monsters at the stores
There are monsters in the school
There are monsters downtown
They like to play the fool
There are monsters on the road
And monsters on TV
Monsters everywhere
Monsters in the sea
There are monsters in the sky
And monsters in the trees
There are monsters sneaking 'bout
Hiding in the weeds
There are monsters in the car
And monsters on the roof
I can hear them up there
Tapping with their hoof
I see 'em in the mirror
I see 'em in my food
I see 'em in myself
When I’m in a bad mood
I've seen 'em in the pantry
I've seen 'em late at night
I've seen 'em in the dark
When there's but little light
There are monsters over there
And monsters right nearby
Monsters push me down
And sometimes make me cry
There are monsters in the corn
There are monsters in your hair
A monster waits for me
Monsters everywhere
There are monsters 'round the corner
Monsters in the lake
Monsters who like to tease
Ones that make you quake
But my daddy tells me this
For all it's worth
You must get used to monsters
If you want to live on Earth
He says sometimes monsters
Really do come about
And we have to do our best
To keep the monsters out
But the fact of it is
The truth overall
Most of the monsters that you see
Are just shadows on the wall
Just shadows on the wall
