Mommy Please Don'T Leave Us

She cried, mommy please don’t leave us
All alone without you near
You know that Susie cry’s at night
As she remembers all those fears
Just because daddy’s gone
Doesn’t mean you must go, too
It just isn’t right mommy
Plus, what am I supposed to do
I’m not that good at cooking
Plus there’s school and other things
And who’s to say what’s down the road
And what tomorrow might bring
Mommy, you can’t leave us
The county will split us all
No matter how brave Johnny says he is
And no matter if he wants to stand tall
I’m still the oldest
And I just turned thirteen
To leave us all alone Mommy
Would show that you’re just mean
Mommy, I’m begging you please
Maybe the doctor’s words were untrue
You know we just can’t make it alone
Because I really don’t know what to do
I know that daddy died today
But Mommy you can pull through
That wreck you both were in
Seems so unreal and untrue
Mommy, please open your eyes
And tell me everything will be fine
And don’t go dying on us Mommy
Cause the county will draw the line
Doctor, please don’t say she’s dead
And we young’uns belong to the state
And three outstanding citizens
Will now seal our family’s fate
I know you think its best this way
Because it doesn’t concern you
But if you were in my place
Doctor, just what would you do?
Mommy and daddy have been gone three years
Susie and Johnny are in different homes
I live on the east side of town
And we only speak on the phone
It seems they’re slipping away from me
Their new parents want solace and peace
They say I must let it go
And the phone calls must now cease
I have a family all my own
A daughter and son have I
And every now and again
They ask why their Mommy cries
There’s no way I could put it in words
And tell them of years ago
Simply because they wouldn’t understand
Because togetherness is all they know
Someday, somehow, maybe
I’ll relate to them what went on
But only when they are older
And they have children at home
