Modern Heroes

Bronze statues standing tall Of historical figures one and all Do they now run and hide For the rampant crowd be satisfied Heroes from old times now past Thought their fame would last But times change and we move on And commence to play a different song I think slave traders deserve a swim And applaud them chucking him in But explorers changed the world So perhaps their fame should be upheld When they go to praise heroes of today Surely drunks thieves murderers should not have their say People like Churchill may have their faults is clear But to make a difference is the chant we need to hear. © Paul Warren Poetry
